Dialing in the right tire

Finding the perfect tire will depend on the type of surface you plan to ride on, your bike and wheel size, and your riding priorities — like going fast on pavement, traction on loose MTB trails, or puncture protection on your commute to work. Our wide selection of tires makes it easy to find the right tire for your cycling needs.

Riding surface matters

From open roads and city streets to gravel and singletrack trails, here's what you should know about riding surfaces to better understand your tire needs.

Open road

Tires for the open road are generally smoother, lighter, and roll faster. If you have a road bike or fitness bike and spend most of your time on pavement, this is a good place to start. These tires balance puncture protection and weight, and have varying degrees of tread.

Gravel roads and paths

Like road tires, these are designed to be lightweight and roll fast — but they also have additional tread for better traction. Tires with more tread will give you more grip, and smoother tires will roll faster.

MTB Trails

If you’re riding trails, mountain bike tires are for you. More tread means more traction, but tires with a lighter tread generally roll faster and weigh less.

Kids’ tires

Our kids’ bike tires are built to stand up to any adventure. But kids’ bikes come in a variety of wheel sizes, so be sure to choose a tire that fits the wheel!
