Red Barn Refresh FAQ

What is Red Barn Refresh?

Red Barn Refresh is Trek’s all-new trade-in and certified used bike program aimed at getting more people on bikes in the most responsible way possible. Through this program, we’ll collect and inspect pre-owned Trek bikes, refresh them to like-new condition, and make them available to people like you on trekbikes.com. All the bikes will be received, refreshed, and shipped out of Waterloo, Wisconsin at the Red Barn - right where Trek got its start in 1976. All pre-owned bikes will be sourced from Trek Bicycle Stores or Trek retail partners who have chosen to participate in our trade-in program.

Why is Trek launching Red Barn Refresh?

As sustainability has become a primary focus of Trek, the decision was made to enter the circular economy through the launch of Red Barn Refresh. Used products are better for the planet - they reduce consumption of new materials by extending the life of still useful products and eliminate the need for the additional resources required to source new materials and make new products. For Trek, it's important we do our part to conduct business in a way that's better for the planet where we live and ride.

Why should I buy a used bike versus a new bike?

Pre-owned (or used) bikes provide you with a couple of key benefits. First, a pre-owned bike comes with a discounted price tag as someone else has already used the bike. So, you’re able to get more bike for your money. The second reason to buy used is the environmental benefit. When it comes down to it, it’s better for our planet to extend the useful life of existing products as it reduces the consumption of raw materials and eliminates the additional resources required to acquire those raw materials and produce new products. So, when you buy used, you can feel better that you’re making a good decision for you and the planet.

What are the benefits of a Red Barn Refresh certified pre-owned bike from Trek?

Red Barn Refresh is the only place in the world where you can get a Trek Certified pre-owned bike. These bikes bring the highest level of quality and assurance to your pre-owned purchase. Trek certified pre-owned bikes undergo a comprehensive 151-point inspection process. This includes serial number verification for authenticity, checking all service bulletins, service information, and recalls to potentially address. Next, the bike is comprehensively cleaned and serviced – replacing all worn parts that do not meet our quality and performance standards. From there, the bike is expertly tuned, then test-ridden to ensure it is in perfect operating condition. Finally, the bike is polished and packaged just for you. All of this is done by a professional Trek technician. Trek Certified pre-owned bikes carry all the same great benefits as new Trek bikes: A limited lifetime frame warranty to the new owner, a complimentary 1-year service, and a 30-day love it or return it guarantee. These are the highest quality used bikes on the market, with the best warranty, and the best experience out of the box.
