The ultimate downcountry bikes – Trek Top Fuel

For your ups, downs, and all-arounds

You gotta get up to get down — make it a party no matter where you point it on the ultimate playful short travel trail bike — Top Fuel. With 120mm/130mm of travel, Top Fuel is a spry and snappy 29er ready to make light work of long climbs and cut loose on rowdy descents. Its adaptable geometry means it’s at home in almost any terrain, while its svelte, lightweight design makes it a dream to pedal all day long. Whether you’re heading out for quick midweek hot laps or weekend long adventures packed with lung-crushing climbs and surreal descents, Top Fuel brings something to the party for everyone.

1: Headtube angle

The stock 65.5-degree headtube angle gives you confidence on descents without compromising handling for weaving through tight trees and hairpin turns.

2: Reach

At 477mm on size L and 447mm on M, Top Fuel’s reach delivers stability at high speeds without sacrificing agility.

3: Seat tube angle

The 76° seat tube angle (size L) keeps you perched in the right position for efficiency and comfort on long pedaling sections.

4: Size-specific chainstays

Size-specific chainstays keep bike handling consistent for riders of any height. Shorter riders still get nimble handling, and taller riders don’t have to worry about the front wheel wandering on climbs.

Adjust your attitude

Flip the 4-way Mino Link to get that just right feel from your geometry and suspension. With the flip of a chip, you can change your head tube angle, bottom bracket height, and leverage rate for how and where you ride.

1: Low geometry and Less progressive

For Low geometry and Less progression (Top Fuel’s stock setting) secure Mino Link’s bolt in the bottom-front setting. Low/Less provides a lower BB height for more stability and a plusher suspension feel.

2: High geometry and Less progressive

For High geometry and Less progression, secure Mino Link’s bolt in the top-front setting. High/Less provides quicker handling and a higher BB to prevent pedal strikes while maintaining a plusher suspension feel.

3: Low geometry and More progressive

For Low geometry and More progression, secure Mino Link’s bolt in the bottom-rear setting. Low/More provides a lower BB height for more stability and increased bottom-out resistance for heavier and extra-aggressive riders.

4: High geometry and More progressive

For High geometry and More progression, secure Mino Link’s bolt in the top-rear setting. High/More provides quicker handling and a higher BB to avoid pedal strikes, plus increased bottom-out resistance for heavier and extra-aggressive riders.

Personalize Top Fuel for how you ride

Whether you want to go bigger with a burlier build or pare things back for an ultralight ride, Top Fuel’s guided cable routing, threaded bottom bracket, and broad component compatibility will get you there. Swap for lighter parts and a shorter fork to build a light, yet confident XC steed or a longer fork, shock, and dropper post for an all-out trail party downcountry bike. Plus, clearance for 2.5˝ tires means you can go slim and svelte or lock into extra knobby traction.

Choose your fork

Go more capable with up to a 140mm fork or build the ultimate lightweight trail bike with a shorter, 120mm fork.

Get more travel

Get up to 130mm of rear travel with a longer stroke rear shock for ride-anything capability.

Pick your post

Boost bike-to-body clearance for steep descents thanks to Top Fuel’s extra room for longer dropper posts.

MX up your wheels

Set Mino in High and toss on a 140mm fork to run a 27.5˝ rear wheel for extra-nimble handling and even more rear wheel clearance.

Put some pep in the pedals

Rip it down and blast back up any trail with Top Fuel’s capable and efficient suspension. A combination of low leverage rate and high anti-squat gives this bike its peppy feel. The optimized anti-squat is nearly constant through the entire range of travel, so whether you’re sprinting up a buff climb or clawing your way through rock gardens, Top Fuel pulls ahead when you push down on the pedals.

Ride fast, stash snacks

Carry your essentials on your bike, not your body, with new BITS bags. With an updated system, you’ll find a spot for a tube, pump, and any other small tools or snacks you need for the ride.

Go ahead, brake under pressure

Trek’s patented Active Braking Pivot (ABP) keeps your suspension active when you need it most — like when you’re using your brakes to billy goat your way down a techy descent.

Keep your guard up

Top Fuel’s bolt-on dual-density downtube guard protects the frame where it’s most likely to have run ins with obstacles. Plus, it’s easy to remove to inspect or replace after a rock strike. On the back end, Top Fuel’s chainstay guard keeps things quiet by reducing noise from the chain while you ride.
